Birth Control Recall!

Qualitest Pharmaceuticals, a division of Endo Pharmaceuticals, has announced a voluntary recall of multiple lots of its birth control pills because of a packaging error that can leave women without adequate contraception and at risk for unintended pregnancy. The firm made the recent public announcement and explained that some lots of blister packs of birth control pills were rotated 180 degrees within the dispensing card pack. This causes the weekly tablet distribution to be in reverse order and could cause women to take pills in the incorrect order, a situation that could lead to unintended pregnancy.

Although there are no other immediate health risks associated with this recall, Endo is currently investigating the source of the packaging error. The recall affects several types of Endo Pharmaceuticals birth control pills including two Clyclafem products and two Glidess products, as well as Emoquette, Orsythia, Previfem, and Tri-Previfem oral contraceptives. The complete list of products and affected lot numbers can be found listed at the Endo Pharmaceuticals web site.

Endo recommends that women affected by the recall should start using a non-hormonal form of birth control immediately and consult with their health care provider or pharmacist for more information. Pharmacies that sold birth control pills in the Qualitest/Endo recall are also being instructed to contact their customers who received the affected products.
